The prospects for winning pennant flags in successive seasons receded yesterday afternoon as our teams fought but ultimately were unable to keep pace with the top sides.
In Grade 3, St Ives went down narrowly at Harbord 62-67 (1 pt to 9) which leaves Manly & Asquith on top of the ladder with Harbord & Dee Why leading the chase. In Grade 4, the table-topping Asquith side came to play and won handsomely 72-35 (10 pts to 0). That result all but wraps up the section for the Roos. In Grade 6, every match was a must-win for the #1 side in pursuit of Belrose who topped the ladder going into Round 7. Balgowlah were the visitors to St Ives and they came away with an impressive win 68-52 (8 pts to 2). It looks like a two-horse race now in Section 1 with Belrose one win ahead of Balgowlah. St Ives have the chance to upset the race if they can beat Belrose at home in Round 8. The only St Ives winners in Round 7 were the Grade 6 (2) side who fought off the challenge from Forestville RSL to win a close match 56-54 (9 pts to 1). Harbord remain unbeaten in Section 2 and look sure to progress.
