A fantastic Tapner tournament for 2021 saw great weather and finished with fast greens and some spectacular bowling from 14 clubs. On Thursday we held the Jacob's Creek Club Challenge with 14 clubs competing.
The late entering team and the form team, Harbord Hawks took away the prize, having already won the Pairs on Sunday. The team included Mark Alexander and Steve Smith who won the Zone 9 State Pairs last weekend. Asquith came a gallant second.
Thanks to all the players from the 28 different clubs that competed over Tapner week. 2021 was a great event and we look forward to welcoming many of you back again in 2022.
We saw some fantastic bowls today in the Women's Fours Championship final. Both teams played well throughout the game but Vicki's team of Carol Whitehead, Jan Kellett, Di McBryde & Vicki Bartrop came away with the title.
Jan's team of Pat Black, Joan Francis, Shizuko Hashimoto & Jan Woodcock had bowls in the head on many ends and then Vicki managed to come in and steal the shot.
Vicki's team got off to a very strong start over the first few ends but Jan's team worked their way back into the match.
It really was an excellent, exciting game to watch.
The Tapner triples took place on Monday 1st March. The first day of Autumn started out misty but soon after the games started the skies cleared and we had another excellent day on the greens, albeit pretty humid!
The format was two bowl triples, 15 ends over 3 games. After game two it looked like team Wilson from St Ives were in good shape with two wins and 40+ margin... It seemed like they only needed to get over the line in the third game to be overall winners. The nearest rivals were team Alexander from Harbord also with two wins but a much lesser margin.
However team Spanyik from Chatswood had other ideas! They also had two wins and gave the St Ives boys stiff resistance only losing by 1 shot after the lead changed several times. Meanwhile Mark, Terry & Jeff were racing to a 26-4 win over their Harbord clubmates led by Mick Powell.
The final tally was 1st Jim Barclay, Chris Bergman, Wilson Cheng with 3 wins and +41, second Jeff Shaw, Terry Warder, Mark Alexander with 3 wins +38, in third place Al Lewin, Steve Gliddon, Phil Westcott with 3 wins +27
The event was sponsored by Huon Park and the prizes were presented by Sue McKindlay on behalf of Huon Park
