Next Saturday, February 2nd, St Ives will be hosting the Zone Reserve Triples initial rounds. There will be two rinks in use in the morning and eight rinks in the afternoon. This does place some constraints on the availability of rinks for social play. To manage this situation social games will be played on both Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon. If you wish to play next Saturday then please put your name down on one of the two sheets posted in the locker room. Your co-operation is appreciated.

The two semi-finals in the Men's Minor Singles championship were held this morning. The green was a little damp after overnight rain & morning dew but still ran well. The weather was overcast, humid with no breeze to speak of.
In the match between Gidley McCullagh and Shea Yu, it was Gidley who got the fast start with 4 shots on the first two ends. Shea clawed that back and after 6 ends it was 4 all. After Gidley took the lead again on end 7 to lead by 1, the match took a dramatic turn with Shea going on a run of winning 11 ends in a row to build a 29-5 advantage. He held on to take the victory 31-9. The other semi-final was between Gerard Coggans and Peter Scott. This contest was a nip-and-tuck affair the whole way. During the early going there was never more than 3 shots in it as the lead changed hands. By end 16 the score was tied at 11-11. Gerard nabbed a 4 on end 17 but Peter gradually worked his way back to tie things again at 17-17 after end 22. Both players were able to make little streaks of scoring- Gerard won 4 ends out of 5 to build a 7-shot advantage. Then Peter won 4 ends in a row to take the lead back at 27-25. It was Gerard who made a crucial save with his last bowl on end 32, from 2 down to 2 up to tie things again at 27-27. Gerard went on to take ends 33 & 34 and win a terrific match 31-27. The final between Shea Yu and Gerard Coggans will be played on Saturday February 9.
At Newport BCs request there has been a change in format for the annual George Griffith Trophy match next Saturday. Now there will only be two sides involved rather than three. The revised selections are below. As usual if there are any issues with availability please contact the selectors asap.
On a more general note there will only be four rinks available for social play on January 12. So if you wish to have a game you'll need to get your name down on an entry sheet on the notice board at the club. The Lloyd Watson Shield match against Avalon will be contested on Saturday January 19th. The teams are shown below. If There are any issues with availability please contact the selectors asap.
