The Final of the Men's Minor Singles was played today in 30+ degree temperatures to decide the opening men's club competition for 2019.
The battle between Gerard Coggans and Shea Yu proved to be a tight war of attrition with neither player yielding any ground as the match progressed. In the early ends it was extremely close with a 3-shot advantage being the largest seen by either player. The symmetry of the battle was indicated by the scores: 5-5 after 7 ends; 10-10 after 14 ends and 15-15 after 22 ends.
The first break came on end 24 when Gerard conceded a 4 and that contributed to Shea building a 23-17 lead after 28 ends; the largest lead of the match. As befitted the match, Gerard fought back winning the next three ends to lead 25-23. Gerard stretched that lead to 27-24 and on end 35 he clinched the victory with a 4-shot haul to take the final 31-24.
