After a thunderstorm 20 minutes before game time and with a stiff northerly breeze, play began as scheduled. The final saw two strong teams facing off: Di McBryde, Chris Carey and Rod Silber against Margaret Ledbury, Greg Smith and Jackie Wilmshurst. Team Silber raced out of the blocks and after 7 ends were up 10-0. However, Jackie's team fought back and with Greg Smith putting the jack in the the ditch on a long end, the score was 10-6 after 10 ends. But Rocket Rod was not happy and demanded more from his team who accommodated. Winning the next 7 ends including a two 2's, a 3 and a 4 raced away to 20-7 and it was slipping away from Team Jackie's grip. Final score 26-10.
A great effort from Marg, Greg and Jackie and congratulations to Di , Chris and Rod Silber. Summary provided by Chris Carey

Perfect conditions for the Mixed Pairs Final being played today between Jenny Bradley & Jim Barclay and Chris Bergman & Vicki Bartrop.
Vicki & Chris jumped out of the gates fast and were 10-0 up after 7 ends. Jenny & Jim got on the scoreboard on end 8 but soon Vicki & Chris were back in control racking up 9 shots in 4 ends to lead 19-3. There was no way to stop the Bartrop/Bergman juggernaut and the match ended on end 19 with a final score of 24-7. Congratulations to all the finalists. The second semi final of the Mixed Pairs Championship was held last weekend with Jenni Bradley and Jimmy Barclay winning through in a very tight game. I understand that it came down to 1 shot in the end. Congratulations to the winners.
It should be a great final on Sunday 15th! Tuesday saw the first of the Mixed Pairs semi finals played in beautiful sunshine. Vicki Bartrop and Chris Bergman (Chris B) played Chris Wood (Chris W) and Sue Byrne.
It was a VERY exciting match! Chris W & Sue led early in the game but Vicki and Chris B hung in there, never giving up. After 21 ends the teams were drawn so an extra end had to be played. Chris B drew beautifully and had 3 shots around the jack. Chris W came in the with a drive to save one shot but Vicki and Chris B came away with two shots for the win. Congratulations to Vicki and Chris B who move through to the finals. A perfect autumn day weather-wise for the ANZAC day commemorations at St Ives Club! Club Chairman Kevin Latham led the well-attended 11 o'clock ceremony along with the President of the Women's Bowling Club, Di McBryde. Harley Sugden did sterling work playing The Last Post and Reveille while Penny Howell was on hand to lead the singing of The Recessional and the National Anthem.
A traditional barbeque lunch followed and the afternoon saw a familiar set of activities to entertain the big, family-oriented crowd attending:-
A successful & appropriate remembrance of the ANZAC tradition enjoyed by all. The final club competition for 2018 was contested on Sunday in not the easiest of conditions- 30 degrees plus temperatures and winds gusting over 40 km/h. The two teams were Di McBryde, Jim Barclay & Rod Silber taking on Jan Woodcock, Tony Wright & Graham Hancock.
Graham's side had the edge in the early ends always keeping their noses in front. Rod's side engineered a couple of big scores on ends 10 & 11 to level the scores again at 12-12. Di, Jim & Rod managed to win 5 ends in a row culminating in a 5 on end 17 leaving them with a nice 23-13 lead. They held that 10 shot lead through to end 19 and, although Graham's team won the last two ends, it was Rod's side that took the day & the championship 26 shots to 21. Congratulations to the winners & commiserations to the runners-up. Saturday December 1st will see a new format & scheduling for two big events in the Club's calendar.
