Perfect conditions for the Mixed Pairs Final being played today between Jenny Bradley & Jim Barclay and Chris Bergman & Vicki Bartrop.

Vicki & Chris jumped out of the gates fast and were 10-0 up after 7 ends. Jenny & Jim got on the scoreboard on end 8 but soon Vicki & Chris were back in control racking up 9 shots in 4 ends to lead 19-3. There was no way to stop the Bartrop/Bergman juggernaut and the match ended on end 19 with a final score of 24-7.

The Men's Triples championship inched closer to its finale with the first of two semi-finals being played yesterday. The lineups saw Andrew Murphy, Ian Finlay & Jim Barclay take on Steven Goddard, Peter Shlager and Fred Alexander. (Steven Goddard was a substitute for Richard Lander.)

The match could scarcely have been closer most of the way. The two sides traded ends and when one side got a big score it was immediately matched by their opponents. After 11 ends it was 9-9 and after 18 ends it was 16-16. Eventually the stalemate was broken with Fred Alexander's team gaining 4 shots on end 19 and 4 more on end 24. That stretched Fred's lead to 26-19 and another 4 shot haul on end 26 effectively decided the contest. The match finished on end 27 with a final score of 30-21.

So Fred Alexander's threesome go forward to the final where their opponent will be the winner of the other semi-final between John Swann and Rod Silber's teams.

The second semi final of the Mixed Pairs Championship was held last weekend with Jenni Bradley and Jimmy Barclay winning through in a very tight game. I understand that it came down to 1 shot in the end. Congratulations to the winners.
It should be a great final on Sunday 15th!

Our B Grade side now have back-to-back wins after a comprehensive 95-68 (5 pts to 1) victory at home against Asquith. The section leaders Dee Why had a bye and Mosman's win at Turramurra keeps them in second place. If St Ives is to have any chance for making the playoffs they must win their final two games against Warrawee and Avalon Beach.

Both C Grade sides were also playing at home but neither was able to take home turf advantage. St Ives (1) were rather surprisingly outplayed by Lane Cove (1) 64-46 (5 1/2 pts to 1/2). It was a much closer affair for St Ives (2) against Lindfield Rollers (2), but the visitors edged the match 56-53 (5 pts to 1). The result was only decided on the 63rd end.

For the C (1) team there are still faint hopes of progressing. Lindfield Rollers (1) take on Dee Why (1) next week whilst St Ives entertain Killara. St Ives need to win big and hope Dee Why do likewise against Lindfield. The loss against Lindfield Rollers (2) by the C (2) side puts them out of contention in their section; the Balgowlah juggernaut will be looking to complete an unbeaten run next week.

Championships are played in all weathers. Saturday's Men's Triples Quarter Finals were staged with a backdrop of a 40 km/h westerly keeping temperatures down at 18 degrees.

Fred Alexander's team were gratefully through to the semi-finals already but three other matches were fought out. Two games were extremely close: Jimmy Barclay's team pipped Graham Hancock's side 32-29 while John Swann's threesome just got home against Peter Larcombe's by a score of 28-26. The last semi-finalists are Rod Silber's side who came through 31-15 against Joe Shofer's team.

Well done everyone who braved the difficult conditions and good luck to the semi-finalists. The semi's are due to be played this coming Saturday.

Our Grade B side got their first win of the competition on Wednesday with a tough, close victory at Turramurra. The Bs got up 74-70 (4 pts to 2). Dee Why continue to be the benchmark raising their record to 4-0 with a win at Mosman. So it looks like a race for second place and that is wide open with three rounds left.

The Grade C (1) side were at home to Forestville RSL and notched up an encouraging 83-45 win (5 pts to 1). The team were ahead early and kept stretching the margin to the finish line. That win puts St Ives on top of the section with a 3-1 record. The margin is only on shots difference though; Dee Why (1) & Lindfield Rollers (1) are also 3-1.

Grade C (2) were the only losers this week falling to the all-conquering Balgowlah team 49-73 (0 pts to 6). As in B Grade this is now a race for second place and St Ives are still very much in the race at 2-2 alongside West Pymble. Balgowlah are almost out of sight at 4-0.

Tuesday saw the first of the Mixed Pairs semi finals played in beautiful sunshine. Vicki Bartrop and Chris Bergman (Chris B) played Chris Wood (Chris W) and Sue Byrne.
It was a VERY exciting match! Chris W & Sue led early in the game but Vicki and Chris B hung in there, never giving up. After 21 ends the teams were drawn so an extra end had to be played. Chris B drew beautifully and had 3 shots around the jack. Chris W came in the with a drive to save one shot but Vicki and Chris B came away with two shots for the win. Congratulations to Vicki and Chris B who move through to the finals.
