We saw a very good match for Women's Club Triples final today.
Sue Byrne (lead), Bev Donnelley (2nd) & Jan Woodcock (skip) played Pat Black (lead), Jacqui Wilmshurst (2nd) and Joy Sapier (skip). The conditions were tricky - the green was fast and the wind was strong. By late morning the conditions changed and the wind swung around - confusing everyone in the process. All bowlers had their moments of excellent bowls. Jan's team got away with a strong start and were leading well until Joy's team grabbed a 4 on one end by making the most of her team's back bowls. Then again, a bit later in the game, Joy repeated her trick and took a 5. That made the scores very close. By the 19th end, Jan's team was up by 1. Jan's team held their nerve to come away with the win. Congratulations to all players! The weather was kind so we could play the first round of the Women's Triples today. Here are the results......
Congratulations to Di McBryde and Rhonwen Martin who beat Sue Byrne and Shizuko Hashimoto to win the Women's Club Pairs Championship on Thursday 28th. It was a convincing win to Di and Rhonwen. Everyone put down some good bowls but Di was the star, playing brilliantly throughout the whole game.
Earlier in the week, the two semi-finals were very tight matches, both coming down to the last end for the result. Di & Rhonwen defeated Jacqui Wilmshurst and Gillian Miles with a brilliant bowl from Rhonwen to steal the match. Jacqui & Gillian had been ahead for most of the game. In the other semi-final, Sue & Shizuko defeated Joan McCullagh and Vicki Bartrop in a tie breaker end. The two pairs were neck and neck the whole match and were even after 18 ends. In the tie breaker, it came down to a measure for Sue & Shizuko to get the win. What an excellent week of pairs matches! We are finally back to bowls competition. We played the first round of the Women's Club Pairs Championship today.
What an exciting Singles Championship final match today!
Shizuko Hashimoto played Vicki Bartrop with both ladies playing beautiful bowls throughout the match. Vicki had a strong first third and then Shizuko drew closer during the middle of the match. In the final stages of the match, Vicki drew away again but Shizuko wasn't giving up without a fight. The last end was brilliant - Vicki drew shot with a resting toucher behind the jack. Shizuko came in with a resting toucher and nudged Vicki away. Then Vicki came in with another toucher, pushing Shizuko's bowl away and staying for 2 shots - that's what she needed to take the match. Congratulations to both ladies for a great game. Vicki Bartrop did brilliantly in the District Singles this year. She had some very close games to win through to the finals.
The finals were held at St Ives on Wednesday 2nd June - what an amazing game to watch. Vicki played Jenny Hepburn from Neutral Bay. The two ladies were neck and neck all the way through the final. At 24 all, Jenny prevailed to win 25:24. Congratulations to both ladies for wonderful bowling! A few matches have been played over the past week in the Women's Club Singles Championship. I gather there were a couple of very close games - well played to all!
We will play the semi-final games as soon as possible - we have a couple of ladies playing in the District Singles so those games take priority over club games. |
