To top off her winning week, Vicki Bartrop defeated Jen Cox in the finals of the Club Women's Singles. Congratulations to Vicki for her major achievements this past week.
The District Senior Women’s Singles final was played at Belrose BC on Sunday 13 August, between Vicki Bartrop (St Ives) and Elaine Seidler (Neutral Bay), with Vicki winning 25-16. Vicki goes on to play the Regional Playoff next weekend to see who represents Region 15 at the State Championships.
Congratulations to Chris Berger who won through to the quarter finals of the Zone 9 Singles last weekend. In the round robin, Chris defeated Col Green of Harbord and Alan Fawcett from Asquith. In the quarter final, Chris went down 15-25 to John Campton (Rowdy) of Belrose. Nice run, Chris!
Our St Ives team of Sue Byrne, Bev Barton and Di McBryde represented Region 15 in the NSW State Championships in the Wollongong area. The girls played 3 round robin matches at Towradgi Bowling Club on Sunday and Monday.
There were 4 sections with 4 teams in each section. Our team came in 2nd in their section with 1 loss, 1 draw and 1 win. Well played girls! This has been a great year for our men bowlers in the zone, with competition wins and Zone representation.
The most recent accolade sees Greg Smith and Rod Silber being selected to represent Zone 9 in the Inter Zone Seniors Tournament at Maitland on 23-25 May. Two St Ives bowlers amongst the top bowlers from the major clubs – 5 x Harbord, 3 x Belrose and 2 x Mona Vale. This a huge honour for Rod and Greg, and a major honour for the St Ives bowling club. This follows on from Rod having been chosen to represent Zone 9 at the recent Vets Tournament. Finally, the Awesome Foursome” Rod Silber, Wilson Cheng, Pete Shlager and Chris Carey will be representing Zone 9 at the Inter Zone Fours play offs in July 2023. The club wishes Greg, Rod and the "Awesome Foursome" the very best of success in the upcoming events. Go Saints! Denistone took out the club challenge in Tapner 2023. The day started with light rain but soon cleared for a sunny and steamy bowling experience. The greens were running well, despite the earlier rain and, as usual, there was a great tussle amongst the teams from around Sydney and the Central Coast.
Harbord took out the top pairs prize, Turramurra won the best triples and North Epping picked up best fours. The home club, St Ives, had a strong finish after lunch with 3 wins to grab overall second place with 6.5 wins. Denistone were the overall winners with a magnificent 8 wins out of 9. Thank you to our sponsors, Pernod Ricard and Chadwick. |
