Novelty Pic!

For those who may have wondered about the "other" form of the game of bowls.... here is a picture of crown green bowls in action. The picture was taken at a village called Cowlersley near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. Things to note:-
  • there are no rinks. The fellows on the left are playing across diagonally whilst the players in the far right are playing down the side of the green.
  • the bowl in the foreground is actually the jack. The jack is biased just like the bowl itself. So on a crown green the trick is  to play down the exact same line as the one used to deliver the jack.
  • far more folks are drinking outside the clubhouse than are playing the game (well it is Yorkshire)!

Commiserations to Chris Carey who fell just short in his State Singles semi-final yesterday losing 31-27 to Alan McMaster from North Sydney. The ultimate winner was Stuart McLeod from Mona Vale who pipped Alan McMaster 31-30 in the final.

In the Senior Singles the winner was Crawford Linton from Belrose and in the Reserve Singles honours went to Mark Walkden from Pittwater Memorial.

Some incredibly tight matches at Harbord BC. The three finals were decided by an aggregate margin of just 4 shots.
